KOLKATA: The West Bengal government said on Monday that community transmission has occurred in some of the pockets in the state and hence announced complete lockdown across the state for two days in a week.

“The new cases of Covid-19 infection are rising day by day. The state health department has come to know about community transmission in some parts of the state. The state government has decided to impose complete lockdown twice a week across West Bengal. This week, complete lockdown will be executed on Thursday and Saturday. We will announce the next week’s dates on Monday,’’ said home secretary Alapan Banerjee.

Meanwhile, a post-lockdown survey by the state health department revealed the rate of Covid-19 infection among men is more than double than the women and most of the infected persons are aged between 16 and 30 years. The rate of infection among men and women was equal during lockdown phases and it drastically changed after the unlock phase started, said an official of the state government.
