For the first time, the Indian railways were halted for over 50 days due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. This caused trouble to many migrants stuck in different cities who wanted to get back home during the nationwide COVID-19 lockdown.
On Wednesday, Railway Minister Piyush Goyal tweeted that 'Indian Railways will run 200 non-AC trains daily as per the time table from June 1.' Online booking for these trains started from 10.00 am on May 21. Though some conditions apply to book tickets, the move has brought slight relief for some.
The Railways has also been running Shramik special trains since May 1 ferrying over 2 lakh stranded Indians each day.
