372 new coronavirus patients found in Gujarat, 20 deaths recorded in 24 hours

AHMEDABAD: With 372 new patients found in Gujarat since previous evening, 253 of them in Ahmedabad district, the number of coronavirus cases in the state rose to 15,944, said a release by the Health Department on Friday.

Twenty patients succumbed to the infection during the period, taking the death toll in the state to 980, it said.

The state government also announced that it had so far conducted 2,01,481 COVID-19 tests as per the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) guidelines.

608 patients recovered and were discharged from hospitals in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of recovered patients to 8,609, the release said.

468 patients recovered in Ahmedabad district alone, followed by the 35 in Surat and 18 each in Kutch and Vadodara.

Of the 372 new cases, 253 were found in Ahmedabad district alone.

Other districts where significant number of cases were reported were Surat (45), Vadodara (34), Gandhinagar (eight) and Mehsana and Chhota Udepur (seven each).

Of 20 patients who died since Thursday evening, 18 persons died in various hospitals of Ahmedabad while two died in Surat.

11,597 coronavirus cases have been reported in Ahmedabad district, followed by 1,510 in Surat and 981 in Vadodara.

The majority of deaths were also reported in these three districts: 798 in Ahmedabad, 67 in Surat and 39 in Vadodara.

As 253 new coronavirus positive cases were reported in the last 24 hours, the number of patients in Ahmedabad district of Gujarat climbed to 11,597, the state health department said on Friday.

Of the total 20 people, who succumbed to the infection in Gujarat during this period, as many as 18 died in Ahmedabad city alone, it said in a statement.

As many as 608 patients were discharged from hospitals across Gujarat during the day, of whom 468 were from Ahmedabad alone.

The virus has so far claimed 980 lives in the state, of which 798 were from Ahmedabad district.

Eleven of these deaths were reported in rural parts of Ahmedabad district, while 787 others were from the city.

As many as 236 of the 253 new positive cases were reported in Ahmedabad city, while 17 belonged to the rural areas of Ahmedabad district.

Similarly, out of the total 11,597 cases registered in Ahmedabad district so far, as many as 11,396 were from the city, while 201 others were reported in other parts of the district.

Gujarat COVID-19 figures are as follows: Positive cases 15,944, new cases 372, deaths 980, discharged 8,609, active cases 6,355 and people tested so far 2,01,481.
