Hathras victim earlier raped by some beasts, yesterday entire system assaulted her: Kejriwal

NEW DELHI:  Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday said the girl from Hathras, who died on Tuesday after being brutally gangraped on September 14, was “raped again by the entire system”.

His comment came after her family alleged the police forced them to conduct her last rites in the dead of the night. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is planning to take up the incident more aggressively in the coming few days to corner the Uttar Pradesh government and CM Yogi Adityanath.

The body of the 19-year-old Dalit woman, who died in Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital on Tuesday a fortnight after she was gang-raped, was cremated in Hathras in the early hours of Wednesday.

“The Hathras victim was earlier raped by some beasts and yesterday the entire system raped her. The entire matter is highly painful,” Kejriwal tweeted in Hindi. Rajya Sabha MP Rajya Sabha MP and senior AAP leader Sanjay Singh slammed the UP government over the treatment meted out to the family members of the woman.

“Humanity died in UP today. The rights of equality given in the constitution were destroyed. Yogi government took eight days to register FIR in the matter.The BJP government of UP cremated the body of the gang-rape victim forcefully against wishes of the family. This is not the first such gruesome incident of rape in the state,” he said, adding, “Yogi Adithyanath is directly responsible for this because he was protecting the culprits.”

Delhi minister Rajendra Pal Gautam demanded CBI investigation in the matter and security protection to the family members.

“The police burnt the body without the permission of the family. We demand an independent probe on this gang-rape and murder case by the CBI. We don’t have confidence in UP police,” said Gautam.

AAP’s UP unit protested over the issue on Wednesday and the party is planning major protests in Delhi in coming days. AAP has been relentlessly attacking the Yogi government on various issues including the law and order situatio.

It has been the most active on ground protesting against the gang-rape and murder incident in Hathras.
