RAIPUR: A woman and her five children allegedly killed themselves by jumping in front of a train in Chhattisgarh’s Mahasamund district on Wednesday night. Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel has directed the district administration to conduct a probe into the incident and take necessary action.

“Prima facie it looks like a suicide committed by the six members of a family. Only after an investigation, the actual reason could be known,” said the superintendent of police Prafulla Thakur. The police said the woman and her husband reportedly had an argument on Wednesday night after which she and five children, aged between 10 year and 18 years, left the house and killed themselves.

“According to neighbours, the woman and her husband had some altercations on Wednesday night following which she left home. The next morning their bodies were found on the railway track,” said the police. The husband works as a labourer in a rice mill. He told local media that on Wednesday night he was drunk and had a heated argument with his wife over household expenses. “After dinner, I went to sleep. My wife quietly left home with our daughters,” he said.
