NEW DELHI:  PM Narendra Modi on Friday called for treatment at the doorsteps of Covid-19 patients, while interacting with doctors and other frontline workers in his Parliamentary constituency of Varanasi. During the video conference, Modi appeared emotionally overwhelmed when paying homage to the pandemic’s victims.

The PM said “jahan bimar wahan upchar (where there is illness, there should be treatment)”, asking healthcare administrators to bring treatment to the doorsteps to reduce the burden on the health system. He called upon health workers to make the campaign comprehensive in rural areas.

In choked voice, the PM paid homage to the deceased. “In this second wave of the pandemic, many have lost their family members. We have lost many known people to the pandemic. I offer my homage.” The PM, who has been holding interactions with a cross-section of people from his constituency, hailed the response of medical professionals in treating Covid patients.

He praised the inauguration of the Rajan Mishra Covid Hospital in “record time”, saying that Varanasi caters to people from adjoining districts, in terms of healthcare facilities. The PM expressed happiness that the integrated Covid command system in Varanasi worked well. He said Varanasi’s example inspires the world.

He also hailed the initiative of micro containment zones and appreciated the home delivery of medicines. “Bringing doctors, labs and e-marketing companies together to provide telemedicine facility named ‘Kashi Kavach’ is an innovative initiative,” he said.
