Modi for all possible efforts to bring back mortal remains of Karnataka student killed in Ukraine

The meeting was convened to review India’s security preparedness and the prevailing global scenario in the context of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday chaired a Cabinet Committee on Security meeting to review India’s security preparedness and the prevailing global scenario in the context of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

The Prime Minister was briefed on the latest developments and different aspects of India’s security preparedness in the border areas as well as in the maritime and air domain.

There prevails an ongoing standoff along the Line of Actual Control in Eastern Ladakh. Keeping the prevailing threats India has been working to strengthen its Navy and the Air force.

The Prime Minister was also briefed on the latest developments in Ukraine, including the details of Operation Ganga to evacuate Indian nationals, along with some citizens of India’s neighbouring countries, from Ukraine.

Prime Minister Modi directed that all possible efforts should be made to bring back the mortal remains of Naveen Shekharappa, who died in Kharkiv.

Naveen Shekharappa Gyandagoudar (21) from Haveri district of Karnataka capital was a final year student at Kharkiv National Medical University. He was killed in shelling in the eastern Ukrainian city of Kharkiv.

India has been able to evacuate most of its citizens from the war-hit Ukraine.

Cabinet Committee on Security is the apex decision making body on India’s security.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Foreign Minister S Jaishankar also attended the meeting. NSA Ajit Doval, Foreign Secretary Harsh Shringla and Defence Secretary Ajay Kumar along with other senior officials also attended the meeting.
