CHANDIGARH:  British national Kirandeep Kaur, the wife of fugitive radical preacher Amritpal Singh, was on Thursday not allowed to board a flight to London at the Amritsar International Airport, police said. Kirandeep was questioned by the immigration authorities for three hours and later told to “go back” in the wake of a Look Out Circular issued against her.

Amritpal has remained elusive for more than a month after the Punjab Police launched a crackdown to arrest him. Kirandeep came to the airport around 11.30 am as her flight was to take off at 1.30 pm. She reportedly told her questioners that she was a British citizen and that there was no case registered against her. She denied that she received “questionable” foreign funding and that she had any ties to the proscribed Babbar Khalsa.

Kirandeep married Amritpal at his native village Jallupur Khera in Amritsar in February this year. Her name cropped up in connection with the foreign funding to Amritpal’s ‘Waris Punjab De’. SSP Amritsar (Rural) Satinder Singh said she was not detained but stopped from fleeing the country as she is required for investigation and that she was sent back to the village.

Amritpal has been on the run since March 18 following a crackdown against him and his supporters. He has been evading arrest by changing his appearance and the vehicles he has travelled in. His key aide Papalpreet Singh, who has allegedly been in contact with Pakistan’s ISI, has been arrested.
