Days after the death of IPS officer Y Puran Kumar sparked nationwide outrage, another case of suspected suicide of a police officer has surfaced from Haryana, adding a shocking twist. Sandeep Kumar, posted as an Assistant Sub-Inspector in Rohtak's cyber cell, died by suicide on Tuesday, after raising serious allegations against the slain cop, Puran Kumar.
According to police, Sandeep's body was found with gunshot wounds at his residence on the Ladhaut–Dhamar Road in Rohtak. The ASI is suspected to have shot himself.
In a video, purportedly 6 minutes and 26 seconds long, which went viral on social media, Sandeep attributed his extreme step to certain police officers posted at the IGP office in Rohtak. He allegedly accused them of spreading corruption, harassing fellow officers through caste-based discrimination, and committing atrocities against honest police personnel. He also mentioned the late senior IPS officer Y Puran Kumar in this context.
Sandeep alleged Y Puran Kumar was a "corrupt cop" who ended his life as he feared his alleged corruption would be exposed.
Sandeep alleged that after YS Puran Kumar was posted in the Rohtak range, he started replacing honest police officers with corrupt officers.
"These people blocked files, called petitioners and mentally tortured them by asking for money. Women police personnel were sexually exploited in exchange for transfers," he alleged.
Sandeep also expressed support to former Rohtak SP Narendra Bijarnia, who is among the officers named in the FIR in connection with Y Puran Kumar's death.

The veracity of the video and the statement could not be immediately verified.
Superintendent of Police of Rohtak, Surender Singh Bhoria, described Sandeep as a "hardworking and honest employee."
"We arrived at the scene after receiving information about his death. It is an unfortunate incident. The forensic team were called in and further details will emerge as the investigation progresses,” he said.
When asked about speculation regarding a suicide note, a police officer, speaking on condition of anonymity, said, “We are checking. Investigations are at a preliminary stage.”
In another purported video, a person claiming to be Sandeep's cousin brother is found saying that he (Sandeep) was known by the name of Kala in the village.
"He was totally honest and was under debit as his land was mortgaged by the bank. He had 9 to 10 acres of land and his father’s pension is coming. No one can level allegation against him saying that he is corrupt. My brother has not taken the right step, he should have fought his battle. A case should be registered against the wife of the deceased IPS officer and others,’’ he said.
The shocking development came on the same day that the Lok Sabha Opposition Leader, Rahul Gandhi, called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini to take immediate action against the officers named in the final note of slain cop Y Puran Kumar.
Speaking to reporters after meeting Kumar's family, Gandhi stressed that the issue affected all Dalit families. He repeated the family's allegation that Kumar had faced systematic discrimination intended to demoralise him and damage his career.
A 2001-batch IPS officer, Kumar allegedly shot himself dead on October 7.
In an eight-page final note, Kumar accused eight senior IPS officers, including Kapur and Bijarniya, of caste-based discrimination, mental harassment, public humiliation, and abuse of authority.
Two days after the death, the Chandigarh Police registered an FIR against those named in his suicide note under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. A special investigative team (SIT) has been set up to probe the incident.
