DEHRADUN: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, at the funeral of retired Brigadier Mukesh Joshi who was killed in a shootout at a Dehradun nightclub, issued a stern warning, promising that the perpetrators would face severe consequences.
"The safety of the common citizen remains our top priority. Strict action will be ensured against those involved in this unfortunate incident," CM Dhami said. "I have directed officials to launch 'Operation Prahar' across the state to target antisocial elements and troublemakers. Those playing with law and order will not be spared under any circumstances."
Joshi's last rites were performed by his son on Wednesday.
According to police reports, a trivial billing dispute at a local nightclub, 'Gen Z Club,' escalated into a violent confrontation. The altercation turned deadly when individuals in a Scorpio SUV with no license plates allegedly opened fire at the club operator’s vehicle.
Brigadier Joshi, who was out for his morning walk at the time, was caught in the crossfire and succumbed to his injuries. Following the incident, CCTV footage has surfaced, providing key evidence to investigators.
The police have arrested four individuals—three from one faction and one from the other—connected to the shootout. Amid mounting public outcry, the administration has taken departmental action.
The in-charge of the Kuthal Gate police outpost and a sub-excise inspector have been suspended for negligence. DGP Deepam Seth is reportedly personally monitoring the ongoing investigation.
The murder has sparked a political firestorm, with the opposition targeting the Dhami government over deteriorating law and order. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also condemned the incident via social media, escalating the pressure on the state administration.
In a subsequent high-level meeting at the Police Headquarters, CM Dhami expressed strong displeasure over recent criminal incidents in the capital.
Beyond the 'Operation Prahar' directive, the Chief Minister has ordered strict enforcement against bars and pubs operating beyond permitted hours, emphasising that a zero-tolerance policy will be maintained toward any breach of law.
