Lok Sabha proceedings were adjourned till 12 noon on Wednesday after Opposition members staged protests over the proposed amendments to the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act (FCRA).
The disruption began shortly after Question Hour commenced at 11 am, with several Opposition MPs raising slogans against the provisions of the Bill.
Responding to the protests, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju defended the legislation, stating that it is intended to safeguard national security and prevent misuse of foreign funds.
He said that the Bill does not target any religion or organisation.
Rijiju also accused the Congress and Left parties of misleading people in Kerala, where Assembly elections are scheduled for April 9.
Clarifying the government’s stance, he noted that although the Bill is listed in the day’s agenda, it will not be taken up for discussion.
As protests intensified and members entered the Well of the House, Speaker Om Birla adjourned the session till noon.
