NEW DELHI: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) grilled actor and TVK chief Vijay for over seven hours at headquarters in Delhi on Sunday over last year's stampede during his rally in Tamil Nadu's Karur that claimed 41 lives.
He repeated the same what he had said earlier that it was state police to maintain law and order and he had been cooperated with the authorities in all ways, sources in CBI said.
The actor left the agency headquarters after the questioning and related formalities were over around 6 pm.
This was the third round of questioning for Vijay. He has been examined twice in January. Vijay was earlier summoned on March 9. However, he had requested that the date be deferred by 15 days.
The central probe agency has also asked the DMK MLA from Karur, Senthil Balaji, to appear for questioning on March 17, they said. The actor was earlier questioned by the agency at its headquarters on January 12 and 19.
During the probe, the CBI has gathered material that needs further questioning and clarifications from the actor, the officials added.
The actor had previously told the investigators that neither his party nor its functionaries were responsible for the deadly Karur stampede on September 27, 2025, which claimed 41 lives and left more than 60 people injured.
He also told investigators that inadequate police deployment during his Karur rally led to the chaos that resulted in the stampede.
He also submitted documents, including the rally application, and was questioned on whether police guidelines were followed.
The CBI took over the case from an SIT following a Supreme Court order on a petition filed by TVK seeking an independent inquiry.
The central agency has already questioned several TVK office bearers and has also summoned former Tamil Nadu ADG (law and order) S Davidson Devasirvatham as part of the investigation.
The Supreme Court had also constituted a three-member supervisory committee headed by former judge Ajay Rastogi to monitor the probe, stressing the need for an impartial and unbiased investigation.
