BERHAMPUR: A Seven-year-old boy died after being administered a wrong injection in Bikrampur village under Khallikote police limits of Ganjam district on Sunday. He is Aditya Barad, who was residing in the village with his grandparents as his parents are employed outside the State.

A boil had appeared in his leg as a result of which, he could not walk properly. In the morning, he complained of severe pain following which, his grandmother took him to an auxiliary nursing midwife (ANM)  in the village instead of taking him to a doctor.
However, the ANM, Manorama Bindhani, had left for Balasore and her son Swagat (23) enquired about the ailment. He then offered to administer an injection on Aditya to which, the latter’s grandmother agreed. Within minutes of administering the injection, Aditya collapsed. His grandmother raised an alarm and some villagers took Aditya to Khallikote hospital, but the doctors declared him brought dead.

Receiving a complaint, Khallikote Police reached the hospital and sent the body to MKCGMCH for postmortem. Swagat, on the other hand, fled from the village before police could arrive. Police have not been able to ascertain the name of the injection that Aditya was administered. Cops are conducting searches to nab the accused. On the other hand, Ganjam Collector Prem Chandra Chaudhary ordered for placing the ANM under suspension and a detailed probe into the matter.

Chaudhary said Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) Manoj Behera has been asked to suspend the ANM. Besides, two inquiries have been ordered to probe  the death due to the  wrong injection. While the Tehsildar is probing the matter, the CDMO has also been asked to investigate the case, he added.
