ROURKELA: Two contract workers of Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) suffered minor burn injuries at Blast Furnace (BF) 1 site here on Tuesday. The injured are Palton Bari (26) and Sakia Soren (24), contract workers of Essar Projects. The two were cleaning gas pipeline at BF 1 site using hot sand blast technique when the gas pipe exploded. While Bari suffered 15 per cent burn injury, Soren received 5 per cent burn injury.
Earlier, on January 25, six contract workers of Essar Projects were exposed to poisonous gas at the same site following leakage in the gas pipeline.
While Somanth Das (32) had died, the rest five were discharged after treatment. Das’s body was detained at the morgue of RSP-run Ispat General Hospital for five days till the contract firm paid compensation of `7.5 lakh to the bereaved family. Essar Projects is engaged in reconstruction of the BF 1.
