Constable attacked

A traffic constable engaged in streamlining traffic during the inaugural ceremony of Netaji Subas Chandra Bose bridge, was mercilessly beaten up be a group of BJD workers on Wednesday.

CUTTACK: A traffic constable engaged in streamlining traffic during the inaugural ceremony of Netaji Subas Chandra Bose bridge, was mercilessly beaten up be a group of BJD workers on Wednesday.
The injured traffic constable, Surendra Jank (32) was rushed to SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack.

As per reports, Jank was deployed at Mani Mandir Chhak near Khapuria Press Chhak to streamline traffic as Kathajodi Ring Road connecting the inaugural spot was choked by BJD workers. The workers were taking out rallies to the inaugural spot.

A group of BJD workers got provoked and started assaulting Jank when he advised them to walk on the left side of road, leaving right path for others commuters. Though the constable begged pardon and asked them to go, the BJD workers continued to beat him. He was spared only after after some locals intervened. Jank had sustained multiple injuries on head, legs, face and back.
Jank has filed an FIR in this regard at Madhupatna police station. Acting on the FIR, a case has been registered under various sections of IPC and investigation is on, said IIC, Madhupatna police station.
