Odisha's Koraput medical college gets all-India response

BHUBANESWAR: Aparna JM and Y Krishnan of Kerala have enrolled as first two students of Sahid Laxman Nayak Medical College and Hospital (SLNMCH) at Koraput.

SLNMCH is the first MCH to be established in the KBK region of Odisha. Of the 100 sanctioned seats, 15 per cent seats under all-India quota were immediately filled up online while four of them, including Aparna and Krishnan, joining.

The medical college at Koraput started academic session from this year along with the one at Baripada after getting a nod from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.Meanwhile, the Odisha Joint Entrance Examination (OJEE) Committee completed document verification for admission to the rest 85 per cent State quota seats. As many as 4,332 students had registered for 1,100 MBBS and BDS seats in Government and private medical colleges and hospitals.

However, 3,280 aspirants turned up on Friday for document verification. Choice-filling for the seats will be conducted for two days. On July 24, the first round of allotment will be announced by the OJEE. Meanwhile, the total number of admissions into BTech programmes is set to remain below 10,000.
The OJEE has extended withdrawal date to July 22 and the final seat matrix will be known on July 23.
