BHUBANESWAR: Three new facilities were unveiled at Capital Hospital by Norwegian Ambassador Nils Ragnar Kamsvag here on Monday.

The Paediatric Emergency Triaging and Treatment (ETAT) unit was a key addition among the three as it would provide essential intervention for saving lives in emergency paediatric cases which require immediate attention.

The State Government, with technical guidance of Norway India Partnership Initiative (NIPI), has decided to implement ETAT in the district hospitals in a phased manner as such facilities can go a long way in reducing child mortality.

Along with Health Minister Pradeep Kumar Amat, Kamsvag also inaugurated the Family Centered Care (FCC) which is aimed at empowering mothers of newborns on kangaroo mother care and home care of newborns after discharge.

The FCC will also help partner mothers with health service providers in the Special Newborn Care Unit (SNCU). NIPI piloted the FCC concept in Jharsuguda in 2015 as this low cost intervention helps bring community and mothers close to healthcare providers. It has also been adopted by SNCUs in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Bihar.

Amat and the Ambassador of Norway jointly inaugurated the Comprehensive Skill Lab which has come up on the hospital premises. The lab will have skill stations where trainees would be able to hone their skills on mannequins, simulation exercises, demonstration videos and presentations.

It will also facilitate demonstration of the correct steps while making available feedbacks to the learners. The lab will help improve the quality of pre-service and in-service training and provide Continuing Nursing Education and Continuing Medical Education.

This is the second comprehensive skill lab in the State. The first one came up at College of Nursing, Berhampur.

Commissioner-cum-Secretary of Health and Family Welfare Dr Pramod Kumar Meherda, Mission Director of National Health Mission Shalini Pandit and Country Director of Jhpiego Dr Bulbul Sood were present. A workshop on experience sharing on Dakshata was also held on the occasion.
