Deoria (UP), Oct 14 (PTI) Three people were killed andfive injured after a clash over alleged encroachment of landbelonging to a temple in Saraura village in the district, thepolice said today.

The villagers had objected to a wall being built by apetrol pump owner adjacent to the temple and alleged he wasencroaching on its land.

The heated argument between the villagers and the petrolpump staff turned violent when an unidentified man openedfire, killing Indrajit Kushwaha (22) and Ram Prakash (30) onthe spot. Five people, who suffered injuries in the clash,were rushed to a hospital.

An injured man, whose identity not could not beascertained, later died in the hospital, the police said.

Twelve people were taken into custody for questioning andthe bodies have been sent for post-mortem, it said.

Senior officials including the SP, Rakesh Shanker, rushedto the spot with additional forces, the police said.

The SHO of the police station where the clash occurred,Neetish Srivastava, has been suspended, it said, adding thatthe situation was now under control. PTI COR SAB DPBBSA.
