Chandigarh, Dec 20 (PTI) The Punjab state VigilanceBureau today arrested the secretary of the Assistant RegionalTransport Authority (ARTA) office, Hoshiarpur, in connectionwith a case of bribery, an official spokesperson said.

Piara Singh was sent to a five-day vigilance custody by alocal court, he added.

The vigilance bureau had nabbed ASI Ramesh Chander,posted at the ARTA office in Hoshiarpur, last month foraccepting a bribe of Rs 1,50,000, the spokesperson said.

During investigation, it came to light that the accusedARTA secretary was allegedly collecting bribes fromtransporters through the ASI, he added.

Both Secretary Piara Singh and ASI Ramesh Chander wereallegedly involved in extortion and bribery, the officialsaid, adding that a case was registered under the Preventionof Corruption Act against the secretary. PTI CHSIJT.
