Dhaka lit fest from Thursday; Okri, Adonis to be in attendance

Dhaka, Nov 12 (PTI) Booker Prize winner Ben Okri, Arabicpoet Adonis, actress-turned-novelist Esther Freud,broadcaster-publisher Charles Glass and Indian authors JerryPinto and Karan Mahajan are some of the names that figure inthis year's line-up of the Dhaka Lit Fest beginning Thursday.

The seventh edition of the three-day festival will beheld at the Bangla Academy here and will see the participationover 200 speakers, performers and thinkers, representing 23countries.

Apart from its more than 100 sessions, the festival willsee the launch of the British literary journal Granta inBangladesh besides other book releases, film screenings andspecial performances.

On the last day of the festival, the winners of the DSCPrize for South Asian Literature and Gemcon Literary Awards,the highest monetary value literary prize in Bangladesh, wouldbe announced.

The directors of Dhaka Lit Fest are Sadaf Saaz, AhsanAkbar and K Anis Ahmed and the event is supported by theBangladesh's Ministry of Culture.

The festival would be inaugurated by Bangladesh'sMinister of Cultural Affairs Asaduzzaman Noor and would befollowed by a session featuring Adonis, who led the modernistmovement in Arabic poetry in the second half of the 20thcentury. PTI ZMNSHD.
