Mumbai, Oct 10 (PTI) The Bombay High Court has refused togrant relief to two firecracker dealers seeking temporarylicences to set up their shops in residential areas.

The traders from Nashik had sought temporary licenses toset up their shops ahead of Diwali, as their permanentlicenses had not been renewed by the concerned authorities.

Pulling up the applicants for approaching the court atthe last hour, a bench led by Chief Justice Manjula Chellurrecently rejected their plea.

The bench referred to an order by the High Court lastyear, when another bench of the court directed civic bodies inthe state to inspect and re-verify licenses issued in everyward for selling firecrackers ahead of Diwali, and to ensurethat safety measures were in put in place to avoid accidents.

The chief justice was hearing a public interestlitigation filed by Chandrakant Lasure, highlighting the issueof illegal firecracker shops set up in residential areasduring Diwali. PTI AYA RMTABH.
