Iran’s Ambassador to India, Dr Mohammad Fathali, described Chabahar as a “vital” maritime hub that provides critical access to Afghanistan and Central Asia.
The decision comes despite India signing a 10-year agreement in 2024 to operate the Shahid Beheshti terminal at Chabahar, a project seen as vital for India’s access to Afghanistan and Central Asia.
New Delhi said it remains engaged with Washington on the time-bound sanctions waiver for the strategic Chabahar Port as President Donald Trump announced a 25% tariff on trade with Iran.
