The ED has alleged that the entire liquor trade in the state between 2019 and 2023 was nothing short of a state-run extortion racket, masked by policy and powered by political muscle.
According to the ED, the liquor scam resulted in a loss to the state exchequer of over Rs 2800 crore (revised calculation based on further disclosures).
The central probe agency claimed that the excise department had played a major role in acquiring funds for a political party during the 2023 Assembly elections in Chhattisgarh.
