Kerala Police go down fighting

Anandraj’s fine allround performance helped Indian Junior Team to defeat Kerala Police 19-25, 27-25, 19-25, 25-20, 16-14 in the men’s section of the SAIL- Panimalar P John Memorial All India Volleyball Tournament at the Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium here on Friday. In another men’s match Sports Development of Tamilnadu defeated Indian Youth Team 23-25, 25-13, 25-17, 25-27, 15-13. Jerome Vinith and Dinakaran played well for the winners while Hardeep impressed for the losers. In a women’s section, Kerala State Electricity Board defeated Dr Sivanthi Club 25-14, 25-19, 26-24 and Southern Railway downed Indian Junior Team 25-14, 25-5, 25-17.

Chess Tourney

Tamil Nadu State Chess Association will organise the 12th Adyar Times New Millennium FIDE-rated open chess tournament from July 24 to 29 at Bapalal Bhavan, (Lions Club of South Madras) in Tiruvanmiyur.

The total prize fund is `1,20,000. Prizes will be given to best unrated players, the best women, the best veteran and for age categories (U-8, U10, U-12 and U-14 for boys and girls). The registered players of All India Chess Federation and Tamil Nadu State Chess Association for the year 2012-2013 are eligible to participate. Entries close on July 20 with the Tamil Nadu State Chess Association Hall No 75, JN Stadium, Chennai-3.
