Top seed VM Ranjeet ousted China’s Yang Lu in straight sets and advanced to the quarterfinals of the LMW ITF Futures men’s tennis tournament at the Perks Tennis Centre in Coimbatore on Wednesday.

He beat Yang Lu 6-1, 6-0 to ensure his progress. While second-seed Saketh Myneni and fourth-placed N Vijay Sundar Prasanth, too, secured facile wins, thrashing Vigneshwaran Ramesh and Tejas Chukulkar respectively, sixth seed Karunday Singh had to sweat to dispatch unseeded compatriot Tejas Chaukulkar.  Though he won in straight sets, both were closely fought. In the first, he prevailed in the tiebreaker, he was stretched 7-5 in the second.

Likewise, seventh-seeded Aswin Vijayaraghavan overturned his deficit to beat Sudanwa Sitaram.

The latter claimed the opening set 6-1 and led in the second, before Aswin recovered and saved a match point to win the second in tiebreaker. The decider, though, was grossly one-sided as Aswin clinched 6-1.
