American tennis star Bethanie Mattek-Sands, who is currently in India to visit her doubles partner and friend Sania Mirza, had a taste of Hyderabad traffic. “It is little tough. I don’t know how there are no accidents. Of course, it is all exciting to be on roads in India,” said Mattek-Sands.
Describing Sania as her best friend on tour, Mattek-Sands said she was planning to come to India for a while. “As friends we have a lot of fun. We gel very well on the court. We have been playing together for quite sometime. She had little bit of an injury last year. We are playing good tennis now,” she said in an interview with The New Indian Express.
Mattek-Sands feels that friendship makes it possible for them to have good communication on the court. “We have a lot of fun on the court and we always look for the win,” she added. Sania and Mattek-Sands won their first doubles title of the year when they triumphed in the Brisbane International before the Australian Open.
The Indo-American duo have set up a couple of targets this year. “We want to win a Grand Slam in doubles. We think we can do it. We have beaten quite a few good doubles players. We can’t really control how well the opponents play but we want to focus on how well we play,” she pointed out.
During her stay in Hyderabad, Mattek-Sands visited Sania’s new upcoming coffee shop venture in Jubilee Hills. The American, who flew from Pattaya in Bangkok, tweeted: Can’t wait to have a Mirza Mocha when I come back next time!
Meanwhile, Sania is all excited about Mattek-Sands’ visit. “It is really good that she has come to India for the first time. She had been planning to come here for a long time. It is a short visit but I’m sure there will be lot of fun,’’ said Sania.
On her new venture, Sania said it was her sister Anam’s dream to have a restaurant. “It is more like a coffee shop. It is a 10,000 square foot area in Jubilee Hills and it will start in the next couple of weeks. It is a different theme for all of us. I will be looking forward to it,’’ said Sania.
