Railways hold Bengal goalless

Three time champions Railways held 31-time champions Bengal to a goalless draw to top qualifying round Group A in the 65th Santosh Trophy at the Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium here on Tuesday.

Though both teams ended up with four points each, Railways finished ahead of their fancied opponents on the superior number of goals scored.

The former beat Delhi 2-1 in the first match while the latter could manage only a goal against the bottom-placed team.

Railways move into Group A of the quarterfinal league which also includes defending champions Services, Orissa and Madhya Pradesh. They will also have the advantage of staying in Kochi while Bengal will have to travel to Kollam in Group D, alongside Manipur, Punjab and Karnataka.

Matches Postponed

The entire schedule of the 67th Santosh Trophy national football championship, starting with the quarterfinal stage onwards, has been postponed by a day due to the two-day nationwide general strike called by the national trade unions on Wednesday and Thursday.
