Jeppiaar Institute emerge champs

Jeppiaar Institute of Technology Basketball Club, Sriperumpudur, defeated Anbu John Basketball Club 63-45 in the final of the non-state players championship and lifted the Doraisamy Memorial Trophy, conducted by Chennai District Basketball Association at the  Nungampakkam Corporation playgrounds recently.

Azinkiy (31) and Pawan (11) top scored for the winners.

The tournament was conducted in memory of a former national all star player and the Physical Director of Loyola College, Doraisamy.

Twenty-four teams took part in the five-day tourney.  Jeppiaar Institute of Technology Basketball Club crushed Sree Venkateswara 61-18 in their opening match, overpowering Kings BBC 48-17 in the quarterfinals, and in the semifinals State Bank of India gave a walkover.

The Director of Jeppiaar Institute of Technology Marie Wilson felicitated the players.

Vedhalakshmi Wins

DK Vedhalakshmi  of Velammal Matric Hr Sec. School, Mogappair, claimed the sub-junior title in the Velammal State Table Tennis Championship 2012, which was conducted by the Kanchipuram District Table Tennis Association at the JN Stadium here recently.

PBA Tourney

The Professional Basketball Ace (PBA) Club, in association with the Y’s Men Club of Mylapore, will be hosting the 6th PBA Basketball tournament from Jan 17 to 20 at the JN Stadium Basketball Courts here.

The matches will be held for both schools (boys & girls) and colleges (boys). The tournament is organised to encourage corporate to promote basketball. Matches will be held for corporate teams on  Jan19 and 20.

A ‘masters-celebrity basketball match’ has been proposed during the valedictory function on Jan 20. More than 10 former Indian basketball team captains, celebrities from film industry and other dignitaries are expected to take part in this match.
