Hockey camp starts

The probables, 26 in all, for the Indian senior men’s hockey team reported for the Indian hockey camp which began at the SAI South Centre in Bangalore from Monday.

M K Kaushik, who has been appointed by Hockey India to prepare the team for the 9th Men’s Asia Cup to be held at Ipoh, Malaysia from Aug 24 to Sept 1, 2013, took charge of the camp.

“A total of 26 players reported today. The rest are expected to be here by tomorrow. We just had a brief session today and once the full compliment of probables are together, we cans tart our normal programme,” Kaushik told TNIE from SAI South Centre.

The winners of the tournament will get an automatic berth in the World Cup to be held at the Hague, Netherlands, from May 31 to June 15, 2014.

India are in Pool B with south Korea, Bangladesh and Oman while Pool A consists of Pakistan, Malaysia, Japan and Chinese-Taipei.

The list of 48 probables has seven goalkeepers, nine defenders, 12 midfielders and 20 forwards.

Roelant Oltmans of Netherlands, who is the High Performance Director  of the team and M K Kaushik will put the probables through their paces before selecting the team.
