Aarathy to represent India in Belgium

Aarathy Kasturiraj qualified for the World Roller Skating Championship to be held in Belgium later this year.

She finished in the first place in all nine events at the trials held at Virar in Mumbai recently.

Aarathy is a first year MBBS student of the Sri Ramachandra University. She has made a mark in many national and international skating events - both in ice skating and inline skating.

Her recent performances include a sixth placing in both 15,000m track elimination race and 500m road race at the 15th Asian roller skating championship that was held recently in Hefei in China.

Two years ago Aarathy represented India at the World Roller Skating Championships held in Yesou in Korea and finished 3rd in the final lap of the Junior Ladies Point to Point 10000 meters and Elimination Road Race.

Overall she secured a point and was classified in 10th place. She is the only skater from India to have achieved this feat.

Earlier Aarathy was the recipient of the National Child Award for Exceptional Achievement and received the award from UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi. The award included a silver medal and a cash prize of `10,000.
