SRM Defeat Karnataka to Clinch All-India Volleyball

CHENNAI: SRM University defeated Karnataka 25-15, 23-25, 25-19, 23-25, 15-9 to bag the men’s crown at the P John Memorial All-India volleyball tournament held at Mayor Radhakrishnan stadium, Egmore.

Western Railway bagged the bronze medal by defeating Tamil Nadu Police 25-20, 25-22, 25-18. SRM got a cash award of `1 lakh, while Karnataka became richer by `60,000.

Best performance: TN Police. Best players: Raison (Karnataka), Aswin (SRM), Prabhu (WR), Swaminathan (TNP), Raul (SRM). Placings: 1. SRM University; 2. Karnataka; 3. Western Railway; 4. Tamil Nadu Police.

Pearl Foundation Win

Pearl Foundation defeated RR Donnelley by 33 runs in the final to lift the inaugural T20 tourney, organised by the Rotary Club of Madras.

Abhishek of Pearl Foundation won the Man-of-the-Final award for scoring an unbeaten 41 and for picking two wickets conceding just one run. About 64 teams divided into 16 groups of four teams each.

In addition to various trophies, the winner and runner-up teams were awarded cash prizes of `1 lakh and `50,000 respectively along with gold and silver medals. Godrej and Chennai Silks were main sponsors.
