Punitha bags girls' crown in U-14 tennikoit meet

CHENNAI: S Punitha Priya of Tamil Nadu bagged the girls’ singles crown at the 31st national tennikoit U-14 championship for boys and girls. Kerala were overall winners, with Tamil Nadu second.

Final results: Singles: Boys: Manu Pillai (Ker) bt S Vikram (TN) 22-20, 22-21. Girls: Punitha Priya (TN) bt Nandhini Prabhu (Mah) 21-14, 21-10. Doubles: Boys: Atul Ravindran/Harthi (Ker) bt Vijay Saikumar/G Ramesh (AP) 21-18, 5-21, 21-19. Girls: Anchita/G Priyadarshini (Ker) bt S Muthuazhagi/Jeevitha (Pud) 21-17, 21-15. Mixed: A Karthikeyan/A Komari (Pud) bt M Ajith/P Sreeshma 21-19, 21-12.

St Joseph’s win

St Joseph’s College of Engineering won the men’s section of the Anna University Sports Board Zone III ball badminton tourney. They beat St Joseph’s Institute of Technology 29-17, 29-15, and qualified for the inter-zone event.

Chess tourney

The 5th Chellammal Memorial Cup children’s chess tournament will be held at Alwin Memorial Public School on September 24 and 25. The event is for Kanchi district players.
