'All-rounders provide CSK great depth'

Ravindra Jadeja attributes CSK’s success in close games to a bunch of quality all-rounders. He also stated that he has improved his strike-rate and trying to be more than useful to the side. Excerpts...

On the secret of Chennai's success

The thing is that we have got good all-rounders. Dwayne Bravo, Albie Morkel, Chris Morris and I. There are four all-rounders, so our batting strength is very good and we can bat till the 9th man. We also have two genuine fast bowlers in Dirk Nannes and Morris. Therefore, we have an advantage in the first six-seven overs as they don’t give away many runs.

On Chennai’s batters not finishing the job early

Yes, but in Twenty20, you don’t have much time to think. If a team bowls one or two good overs, the game can change. In the last over, we needed 16 runs. Dhoni had got out in the penultimate over. We didn’t know what would happen. But Bravo, Morris and I backed ourselves and won the game off the last ball.

On CSK’s strategy of playing Nannes and Morris

It was a good wicket to bat on Saturday. Earlier, the wicket used to turn a bit more but this year none of the spinners have been able to turn or beat the bat. In T20, you usually get these kind of flat wickets. Gayle  is such a batsman that he can hit any bowler, on any ground, for a six.  Therefore, we were thinking that for him we will have a different strategy, to not give him runs and take his wicket.
