Former Australia opener Matthew Hayden todayexpressed surprise at the axing of India opener Virender Sehwag for the lasttwo Test matches of the ongoing India-Australia Test series.

"It's a surprise to me that Virender Sehwag has been dropped.I was surprised with (the dropping of) Gautam Gambhir as well. To me they werethe two dominant players for India," said the ex-Aussie opener.

Sehwag was the only player left out by the selectors when theypicked the squad for the last two matches at Mohali (March 14-18) and Delhi(March 22-26), retaining the other 14 members chosen for the first two gamesthat India comfortably won in Chennai and Hyderabad.

Hayden said perhaps it was time for Sehwag and Gambhir to onceagain prove themselves through their performances in domestic cricket.

"It's disappointing (Sehwag's omission). May be like everyother athlete it's time to come back into Ranji Trophy and put performances onboard because at the end of the day the only asset within the cricket space isscoring runs, taking wickets and taking catches," Hayden, who is in India commentatingon the series, said.
