Blessing of Satya Sai Ahead of Prez Duty

“I’m humbled.” That was the first reaction of Sunil Gavaskar after the Supreme Court installed him as interim head of the Indian cricket board to look after the IPL.

Speaking to children of  the Sri Satya Sai Vidya Vihar school here, Gavaskar said he was looking forward to the new assignment. “I will be taking Swami’s guidance. The game of cricket is not our national game but it is in the heart of the people. I will perform to the best of my ability,” he said.

After being given a guard of honour on his arrival at the school, Gavaskar, an ardent devotee of Satya Sai Baba, went straightaway to the temple where he prayed for a few minutes. Tears rolled down his face before he went to the felicitation function.

“As far as dedication is concerned, it is important not to run away from any problem. One should be positive. Self-discipline is always good, both physically and mentally. The result is not in our hands but the efforts are in our hands. You have to keep doing it,” he advised the students.

While replying to the students queries, Gavaskar spoke about his technique while facing the short-pitched deliveries. “Keep your eye on the ball. It is like a human reflection when a fly flies near your eye and you get rid of it,” he said.
