'Partnerships Helped me to Score 337'

BENGALURU:KL Rahul still had cake smeared all over his face as he came in for the press conference after making that epoch-making 337 to become the first Karnataka batsman to score a triple hundred. “Yes, it is a tradition in the team. Whenever someone does well, this happens in the dressing room,” said Rahul as he tried to wipe his face clean.

“It surely feels very great to be the first to make a triple hundred. More so, considering the array of batsmen Karnataka has produced over the years. To do something that nobody has done makes me feel proud and great as well. I owe everything to all those who have supported me over the years,” Rahul said.

Psychologically, how much did the century in the Test against Australia contribute to this knock? “It game me a lot of confidence. As I came back and played my first game, I made 89 but you cannot make a big score every time. So when I played here, I was confident but never planned anything,” he said.

“The wicket was good for batting. You cannot get this kind of  surface often. But we lost wickets early on. I had to build partnerships as the innings progressed. Shreyas and I put on a good stand. Then CM (Gautham) and me. As he got out, Abrar joined me and he played really well,” opined the 22-year-old.
