KOLKATA: The Indian team has evolved a lot in these last few years, according to skipper MS Dhoni.

Speaking to media after India’s six-wicket win over Pakistan, Dhoni said they were proud of India’s 11-0 record over Pakistan in World Cups and World T20s but warned they would eventually lose the record. “If we are proud of the fact that we have a 11-0 record, there is also a reality that one day we will lose — whether it is today or in ten years or 20 years or 50 years. There is no such thing that you will always keep winning. Also, our team has evolved a lot. It’s something to be proud of, but at the same time, just like they have the pressure of 0-11, we also have the pressure ( of 11 wins).”

Dhoni felt that there was a lot of moisture in the wicket and that was the reason the spinners got a lot of turn. “Initially, we never thought it would turn so much. I thought there was a bit of moisture because they had watered the wicket yesterday (Friday) and I don’t think there was enough sun today (Saturday). I feel it was because of the moisture that the spinners were getting a lot of turn. If you hit the seam you can turn the ball, and that’s what (Ravindra) Jadeja and (Ravichandran) Ashwin did.’’

The Indian skipper also reserved special praise for Virat Kohli, who anchored the run chase in thrilling fashion. “I feel his biggest plus point is he takes everything as a challenge. He wants to improve, he wants to contribute in each and every game.”

“He takes cares of his fitness. He knows and understands how to bat in different conditions and wickets. He understands how he is supposed to bat and score runs. And we all know, once he gets going, once he gets a start, he always converts it into a big innings, which I feel is one of the most important things for any youngster coming into the game.’’

“There are a few ways to handle pressure and sometimes batsmen go in for big shots. But he believes the best way to deal with it is to take singles, go to the other end, because that calms you down. That’s why he loves batting with individuals who can run hard.”
