Dhoni rescued from fire in Dwarka, Jharkhand-Bengal match postponed

There were reports of some of the Jharkhand players' kit bags being damaged in the incident, following which BCCI decided to postpone the match.

A fire broke out at a hotel in Dwarka, where former India captain MS Dhoni was staying with his Jharkhand teammates in New Delhi. Though Dhoni and the rest of his teammates were safely rescued by the fire department, Jharkhand's semifinal match against Bengal for the Vijay Hazare Trophy, which was scheduled to take place on Friday, has been postponed.

"We got a call around 6:30am alerting them there was a fire inside the Welcome Hotel, which is located in Sector 10, Dwarka. 30 fire tenders pressed to control the fire and the fire was brought under control at 7:50am," Delhi Fire Service said.

The players are learnt to have been in preparation for the game when the incident happened.

According to the police, team members were not in the room when hotel caught fire. Police is probing the matter, no case has been registered so far. A team of local police is in the hotel along with a dozen of fire personnel.

Jharkhand, who had made it to the semifinals of the Ranji Trophy, are up against the Bengal side comprising the likes of Manoj Tiwary and Pragyan Ojha among others. Tamil Nadu have already made it to the final.
