NEW DELHI: A fresh controversy erupted on Sunday as the Committee of Administrators (COA), headed by former CAG Vinod Rai, barred top BCCI officials from attending the IPL players’ auction.

In a statement, the COA said: “Mr CK Khanna, Mr Amitabh Choudhary, Mr Anirudh Chaudhry and any other persons who claim to be ex-officio members of the IPL GC on account of being office bearers of the BCCI shall not be entitled to attend the IPL player auctions since the issue regarding validity of the undertakings filed by such persons pursuant to the order dated 2nd January 2017 is still pending before the Supreme Court.”

The COA also asked all BCCI officials, and those disqualified in particular, to self-asses their eligilbilty to attend the auction. “Only those persons who are not disqualified in terms of the strictunderstanding/interpretation of the disqualifications may attend auctions,” the release stated.
Last month, confusion over joint-secretary Amitabh’s eligibility delayed a selection meeting by several hours, before being convened by CEO Rahul Johri.
