Golden return for Tamil Nadu spikers in South Zone meet, women lose final

CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu defeated Puducherry 25-18, 25-21, 22-25, 25-19 in the men’s final at the South Zone senior national volleyball championship in Puducherry. Tamil Nadu women bagged silver, losing 12-25, 13-25, 26-28 to Karnataka in the final.

Finals: Men: Tamil Nadu bt Puducherry 25-18, 25-21, 22-25, 25-19; Women: Karnataka bt Tamil Nadu 25-12, 25-13, 28-26.

Besant Nagar Club win

The Besant Nagar Club pair of Preethi Srinivasan and Reshma Ganapathy comfortably beat Madras Cricket Club represented by former national champion Amreeta Balachander and Sri Vidya Murali 6-2, 6-1 in the final of the 13th UCAL-TNTA inter-club women’s tennis doubles championship at Besant Nagar courts.

Hat-trick by Davey

Dhaerya A Davey’s 3/4 including a hat-trick helped Little Masters Cricket Academy B thrash Madras Gladiator Cricket Academy in the LMCA Trophy T20 tournament at Little Masters-KVT grounds, Madhavaram. A Marvin was also among wickets with figures of 3/10 for the winners. Batting first Madras

Gladiator posted 71/9  in their quota of 20 overs. In reply, Little Masters reached the target in just 10.5 overs.

In another match, Little Masters Cricket Academy A got the better of Evergreen CA by 23 runs. Aman Bhatnagar and R Deepak picked two wickets apiece for the winners.

Madras Gladiator CA 71/9 in 20 ovs (S Nivetha 30, Dhaerya A Davey 3/4, A Marvin 3/10) lost to Little Masters CA B 72/2 in 10.5 ovs.

Exam for umpires

A state panel umpires’ examination will be conducted by Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) on June 11.

Those in the age group of 21-40 years can take the exam. Application forms can be collected from the TNCA office on working days from 10-6 from May 3.

Examination fee of `500 (inclusive of service tax) will be collected from each candidate at the time of submitting forms. The last date for submission is May 20. Preparatory classes for candidates will be conducted at TNCA from May 22.

Girls’ coaching camp

Cricket Drome will conduct a four-week coaching camp for girls at their facility at OMR from May 8.
