Stage set for World 10K run in Bengaluru

The 10th year of the World 10K Run here on Sunday has, once again, attracted some of the best runners in the world.

BENGALURU: The 10th year of the World 10K Run here on Sunday has, once again, attracted some of the best runners in the world.

And leading the field will be 2015 and 2016 men’s champion Mosinet Geremew (Ethiopia). Geremew might be familiar with the route but he will have stiff competition from Kenyan Leonard Komon, who is the 10Km and 15Km world record-holder. In the women’s section, the top contenders are all from Kenya, including Irene Cheptai, Gladys Chesir and Helah Kiprop.

The Ethiopian to challenge them will be Wude Ayalew. With the surface smoother than last year, a good race can be expected. However, what could be a slight disadvantage is the heat and humidity, which has been a tad high.
