VIJAYAWADA: City based sculptor B Siva Varaprasad made a 26-foot high statue of Bharata Mata to be unveiled at Rajiv beach on the banks of River Gowthami in Yanam of Pudicherry Union Territory for the Yanam festival slated for January second week.
Speaking to press persons here today, he said Puducherry Minister for Tourism Malladi Krishna Rao has asked him to make a unique statue of Bharata Mata. Reliance Industry, Kakinada was sponsoring the project.
Fifty workers toiled for three months to sculpt the marvellous statue under the supervision of Siva Varaprasad and Ankapalli based sculptor Kamadhenu Prasad.
Eleven tonnes of metal (85 percent bronze, five percent copper, five per cent tin and five percent zinc) was used in the statue-making. One tonne of the mix costs Rs 5 lakh and the total cost comes around Rs 60 lakh.
Varaprasad said that they have made a plastic die to cast the statue. The mould can be used to make more statues of the same size, he added.
After completing the project, he said now he was confident of making more than a 50 ft- height statue. He said the statue would sustain for at least hundred years.
