Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy is of the view not to revive regional

planning and development boards of Telangana, Rayalaseema and Andhra  whose two-years term has come to an end recently.

It may be recalled that the Chief Minister had constituted these regional development boards in May 2007 by appointing senior Congress leaders Uppunuthala Purushotham Reddy, Gade Venkat Reddy and Gali Mudhukrishnama Naidu as chairmen of Telangana, Andhra and Rayalaseema boards, respectively.

Except for Purushotham Reddy, the other leaders have refused to take the charge.

Later, he appointed another senior Congress leader CK Babu as chairman of Rayalaseema Regional Planning and Development Board.

According to a source close to the Chief Minister, Rajasekhara Reddy felt that

there would be no use of reviving these boards. On the other hand, the State Government itself could directly take up the developmental works assigned to the boards.

The source further said that the Chief Minister was irked by the `statements’

made by senior Telangana Congress leader Purushotham Reddy after taking

charge as board chairman.

In reality, these boards were being used to rehabilitate party leaders by appointing them to the posts of chairman.
