

KADAPA: Eyes wet with sorrow, people right from a 9-year-old lad to a 90-year-old woman in Pulivendula Assembly constituency went in a rally to CSI Grounds today for paying homage to their leader YS Rajasekhara Reddy.
About 25,000 men, women and children from seven mandals of the constituency, which is a bastion of Rajasekhara Reddy’s family for over three decades, attended the memorial meeting. Holding Congress flags, photos of departed leader and placards with slogans like `YSR Amar Rahe’, `Long Live YSR’ and `Make Jagan CM’, people participated in the rally, which began at Bhakarapuram, where the new house of Rajasekhara Reddy is located.

GUNTUR: The district has turned notorious for conducting fake or unwarranted hysterectomy operations under the Arogyasri scheme. Hystrectomy operations, listed in the Arogyasri scheme, have turned out to be money-spinners for most network hospitals in the district.
A total number of 31 hospitals in the district have been identified to be conforming to the Arogyasri standards and all these hospitals have performed 32,180 operations.
Of them, 1,140 hystrectomy operations have been performed in the district in the 31 recognised network hospitals. Most of the operations have been conducted in 20 of these hospitals. The Vigilance department has identified many a discrepancy in regard to the very need for them and the way they were conducted.
In one such case, a network hospital at Piduguralla in the district was found to have conducted close to 306 such operations, which is also the highest in the district. Of these, 114 operations were conducted on women in the age group of 21-35 years, 109 were conducted on women in the age group of 35-40 years and 83 were conducted on women in the age group of 41 and above.
Meanwhile, medically histrectomy is advised only on women crossing 40 years of age.
Speaking to Express, a gynaecologist said: ‘’The operation is performed on women below 40 years of age only when there is an absolute need for it..’’ All but the 83 operations have been unnecessarily performed at the network hospital in Piduguralla. Similarly, a hospital in Guntur city performed 89 unwarranted operations and another 86 and are now under the scanner of the Government.
The Vigilance and Enforcement Directorate has even seized the case papers in 47 such cases and has submitted them to the GGH and Medical Regional Board for verification by them.While not officially out, the GGH authorities are said to be of the opinion that almost 398 hysterectomy operations have been performed compromising with the health of patients for the sake of earning Rs 40,000 that the Government pays

Recalling his development programmes and welfare schemes, they said Rajasekhara Reddy was a legend.
Kadapa MP YS Jaganmohan Reddy should be made chief minister to continue the development programmes and welfare schemes initiated by his father with renewed vigour, they said.
It was unanimously resolved to submit a memorandum to the Congress high command seeking appointment of Jaganmohan Reddy as chief minister of Andhra Pradesh.
People from different parts of the State had started visiting Idupulapaya Estate where Rajasekhara Reddy was laid to rest, to pay their homage.
