HYDERABAD: Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy today insisted that the youth who threw acid at Swapnika and Pranitha in Warangal died when the police open fired in self-defence following an assault attempt on them.

Reddy made the statement in the Assembly today when Telugu Desam Party member G Muddukrishnama Naidu alleged that the Chief Minister had admitted that they were killed in an (fake) encounter.

“I had never admitted that any (fake) encounter took place. They (youth) died when the police open fired to defend themselves,” Reddy said.

The Chief Minster’s clairfication came during the question hour of the Assembly today, when PRP member Shobha Nagireddy, TD members G Muddukrishnama Naidu, P Raghunatha Reddy, Suman Rathod, K Suryanaga Sanyasi Raju, D Anasuya and D V Balavardhana Rao raised a question about acid attacks on girls despite the government’s assurance that it was taking all the measures to contain the meance.

In the absence of Shobha Nagireddy, TDP member Muddukrishnama Naidu raised supplementary questions and recalled the Warangal encounter. He stated that the Chief Minister had not been able to bring down the cases of acid attacks.
