YSR hails railway budget

CM YS Rajasekhara Reddy has pointed out that the State has not got what it has expected in the Railway Budget.

HYDERABAD: Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy has pointed out that the State has not got what it has expected in the interim Railway Budget presented by the Union Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav but expressed hope that the needs of the State may find place in the full budget to be presented later in the year.

While welcoming the budget here today he said that a study has been ordered for introduction of bullet trains on Hyderabad-Vijayawada- Chennai route. A super fast train between Secunderaba and Manuguru, a train between Machilipatnam and Mumbai were also announced in the budget, the Chief Minister said.

While making an over all observation on the railway budget, the Chief Minister said that in the last five years the Indian Railways has accrued about Rs 90,000 crore surplus and Rs 70,000 crore was reinvested.

He appreciated the fact that the freight transport grew from 3 percent to 8 percent.

He welcomed the decision to reduce the passengers tariff by 2 percent across the board. As far as the revenues were concerned the 19 percent increase in the freight revenue, 20 percent in the passenger revenue were laudable, Rajasekhara Reddy said.

The Chief Minister congratulated the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav for the achievements
