HYDERABAD: The Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC) released the results of Group-I Preliminary Examination today after postponing it twice. About 10,500 students have passed the examination and will be eligible for the Main examination likely to be held in March.

The Preliminary examination was held twice, on September 6 and October 25, due to the demand and agitation for reservation for Telangana students. Nearly 85,000 candidates appeared for the examination held on September 6. A re-examination was conducted on October 25 for some candidates who could not write the examination in the face of widespread protests in the Telangana region.

Student organisations along with some political outfits opposed conduct of the examination and demanded its postponement. But the state government went ahead and conducted the examination.

The government had issued a notification for filling 198 posts initially and added 12 more posts later. The selected candidates will be competing for 210 posts which means that there will be a single post for every 50 candidates.

The notification for the examination was given on December 29, 2008 and 1,90,299 candidates applied.
