New railway line to boost industrial development

ANANTAPUR: The Rayadurgam region of Anantapur district will prosper with industrial development once the new broad guage railway line between Rayadurgam and Tumkur is completed, said Union Railway minister Dinesh Trivedi on Friday.

The new line has been taken up at the cost of  Rs. 970 crore. Dinesh, who along with chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy, was present during the foundation stone laying ceremony of the Rayadurgam-Tumkur railway line in Rayadurgam on Friday, said that the railway line will immensely benefit people of both Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. "It will strengthen the bond of friendship between both the states.

The expenditure of the new railway line is shared between Union and the two state governments with a 50:50 ratio," he said. The railway line is expected to cut down the duration of journey between Rayadurgam and Tumkur to four hours, as against the present seven hours. However, it would reduce a distance of 146 km between both the towns, he explained.

Besides, the minister has also assured to sanction halt for Dwarka Express at Anantapur railway station and introduction of two new trains between Guntakal and Tirupati. He also disclosed that a new railway line between Chikballapur to Puttaparthi at the cost of  Rs. 560 crore will be sanctioned.
