KARIMNAGAR: Police personnel figure more prominently than excise staff in the list of those who received bribes from liquor syndicates in Karimnagar district, sources said here on Thursday. The ACB has prepared the list mentioning bribes paid from police stations to DSP office and sent it higher officials for further action, they said.

There are 315 wine shops in the district and almost all of them sell liquor at rates higher higher than MRP. At many places, police personnel are running wine shops through benami deals and the ACB reportedly gathered this information too.

Many liquor syndicate members were learnt to be trying for anticipatory bail.

Prohibition and excise director DS Chowhan, who visited Karimngar and conducted a review meeting on liquor sales recently, reportedly read out the names of some excise officers and constables involved with liquor syndicates.

Menwhile, the ACB office here is facing staff crisis. Only the DSP and constables are stationed here and no inspectors.

When contacted, ACB DSP Sudharshan Goud said he had no information on liquor syndicates.
