Eerie calm in Armoor ahead of Jagan's Deeksha

NIZAMABAD/HYDERABAD: The angry protests, preventive arrests, unprecedented security cover and massive arrangements all these elements are missing in Nizamabad district which will host the threeday 'Rythu Deeksha' of YSR Congress party president YS Jaganmohan Reddy commencing from Tuesday.

Instead, the situation is relatively calm which is completely in contrast with the attacks and counterattacks between the TRS and TDP cadres during the Rythu Porubata programme of TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu in Warangal last week.

Except for a few political leaders who are vocal about the Rythu Deeksha of Jaganmohan Reddy, the Telangana cadres of different political parties in the district are remaining calm. However, police are making elaborate arrangements to prevent any untoward incidents.

SP D Ramakrishnaiah visited the venue between Armoor and Perkit to make security arrangements.

For the first time after launching his party and the bitter experience at Mahaboobabad in Warangal in 2009, Jaganmohan Reddy is entering Telangana with his Rythu Deeksha.

The YSRC leaders are confident that they would not face any troubles as their party president is fighting for the cause of farmers. "We are expecting one lakh people to visit the Deeksha camp and have already made arrangements to accommodate 10,000 people at a time," said YSRC Nizamabad district coordinator Adi Srinivas.

Incidentally, the TRS party is not making any attempts against Jagan's tour claiming that the party high command has not taken a decision in this regard.

TRS floor leader E Rajender told Express that his party was yet to decide over its action plan but hastened to add that the state government was giving full support to those who were trying to suppress Telangana movement in the name of farmers' welfare programmes.

However, TJAC chairman M Kodandaram, who participted in a student rally at Nizamabad on Monday, demanded that Jagan should clear his stance on Telangana issue before entering the region. Even Congress leaders from Telangana including the partygovernment coordination committee members D Srinivas and Mohd Ali Shabber, who hail from Nizamabad district, have remained calm over Jaganmohan Reddy's visit. Only Nizamabad MP Madhu Goud Yashki and Karimnagar MP Ponnam Prabhakar raised objections to the YSRC programme at Armoor.

Madhu Goud Yashki said the leaders from Coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema were working together to bury the Telangana issue in the name of farmers' welfare programmes as part of the recommendations made by Justice Srikrishna Committee.

Jaganmohan Reddy will travel by road from Hyderabad to the venue. En route, he will halt at Tupran, Ramayampet, Kamareddy and Nizamabad before launching the Rythu Deeksha at 12 noon.

Former minister Santhosh Reddy and a few other leaders from different political parties are expected to join the YSR Congress party in the presence of Jagan on the occasion.
